How to Prepare Children for an AI Future
The honest answer is that nobody knows the jobs. What we can say is which human capacities keep their value, and those are developmental rather than technical.

Nobody knows which jobs will exist. Anybody telling you otherwise is guessing, and the confident predictions of ten years ago have aged badly: the tasks assumed safest, writing and drawing, turned out to be among the first affected, while plumbing did not move.
So the honest version of this question is not what should my child learn to be employable. It is what holds its value regardless, and that question does have answers.
What appears to hold
Judgement. Deciding what is worth doing, which of several adequate answers is right here, when something feels off. These systems produce options; somebody still has to choose, and choosing well is a developmental capacity built by making decisions from early on.
Knowing enough to spot a wrong answer. This one is counterintuitive and important. A tool that produces confident, fluent, sometimes-wrong output is dangerous in the hands of somebody with no knowledge of their own. Deep knowledge becomes more valuable, not less, because it is what allows you to catch the failure.
Sitting with a problem that does not resolve. The capacity to stay with something unresolved is exactly what an always-available adequate answer erodes, and it is the precondition for original work.
Working with people. Reading a room, disagreeing without damage, being trusted. None of this is automatable and all of it is built in ordinary childhood.
Physical competence. Hands that can do things. Widely underrated in these conversations and among the least affected.
Knowing what you actually want. A person with no view of their own is easy to steer, and there has never been more steering available.
What probably does not help
Teaching a specific tool, because the tools change. Coding as insurance, which is a poor reason though a fine hobby. Speed, which machines win. And accumulating credentials on the assumption that the ladder stays where it is.
What this means on an ordinary Tuesday
Almost nothing exotic, which is the point.
Let them make real decisions and live with them. Let them be bored, because the gap before invention is where original thought starts. Let them get properly good at something slowly, so they know what depth feels like. Protect the reading, because knowledge is what catches errors. Give them work with their hands. And let difficulty stand rather than removing it, which is the single hardest thing on this list for a parent who can now remove almost any difficulty in seconds.
The sentence worth saying to them
Your child is not in a race with these systems and does not need to beat them at anything. The useful position is not being faster than a machine; it is being the person who decides what the machine should be pointed at, and who notices when the output is wrong.
That is a developmental achievement rather than a technical one, and it is built the same way it always was.
